Police try to trace tip man

Thursday, August 26th 2010 00:00

Police investigating the disppearance of a woman missing from Burton thought to be dead are trying to find a man seen taking a suitcase to the tip.

24 year old Polish national Sylwia Ciapcinska was last seen shopping in the town on the 20th of July.

As part of their ongoing inquiries, officers want to speak to a man who is seen on CCTV walking into Burton recycling centre, in Shobnall Road, at around 1.30pm on Wednesday 21st July - the day after she went missing.

The man is seen pulling, and later pushing, a dark-coloured wheeled trolley or case into the tip, before emptying its contents into a skip and walking out. The recycling centre is around a mile from the house where Sylwia was living in Ash Street.

Chief Inspector Selwyn Burton, from Trent Valley division, said: "Detectives from our Major Investigation Department need to speak to this man so that he can be eliminated from our inquiries.

"It is not clear whether he lived nearby and walked to the recycling site or arrived in a vehicle too big to enter the tip and parked outside.

"The CCTV footage has been posted on Staffordshire Police's YouTube site. We're urging this man - or anyone who knows who he may be - to contact us immediately.

"It's now over five weeks since Sylwia went missing and we are determined to find her. We are doing all we can to find her and provide answers to her family at this very distressing time for them.

"Anyone with information should ring us on 0300 123 4455 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111."

The CCTV can be viewed at www.youtube.com/staffordshirepolice alongside footage, issued last week, of Sylwia in New Look in the Coopers Square shopping complex in Burton town centre on Tuesday 20th July.

A 29 year old Burton man has been charged with her murder and has been remanded in custody to appear in court in October.
