Drug dealer told to repay some of his criminal profits

A drug dealer from Burton has been told he faces six months in jail if he fails to meet a deadline to repay some of his ill-gotten gains.

Jake Marnell's cannabis growing activities were discovered when Derbyshire Police searched a house in Buxton Road, Chaddesden in December 2017.

The 33 year old from Stretton was convicted of growing the drug during a Derby Crown Court hearing in November.

Last month on Thursday, March 21, at a confiscation hearing at the same court, Judge Egbuna granted an order that Mr Marnell should pay £17,000 under the Proceeds of Crime Act. He has three months to pay up or face the prison time.

Sergeant Jonny Luxton, who is in charge of the Safer Neighbourhood team, said: “The search was completed having received information from the local community.

“We will always act on information we receive as we understand this activity is disruptive to residents.

“The result at court shows that this type of criminality does not pay.”
