Royal Visit to Lichfield

On Wednesday 20th July Her Majesty arrived at Lichfield Train Station just after 10am and greeted the crowds before travelling to the Cathedral.

There she waved to gathered groups of locals waving their Union Jack flags before presenting operational medals to members of the Royal Mercian and Lancastrian Regiment who have just returned from Afghanistan.

After a homecoming service for the regiment, meeting their families and a visit to the Cathedral School the Queen then went to the National Memorial Arboretum in Alrewas for the dedication ceremony at the Armed Forces Memorial.

There Her Majesty laid a wreath in memory of the 112 soldiers killed in action in 2010 whose names have recently been inscribed on the wall there before meeting their loved ones.

Touch FM were live at the Cathedral for the Queen's visit with Mark, Lindsey and Nick covering the event.

Below are some of the highlights from our show...

Lindsey Alder spoke to 3 year old Thomas and his Mum after she handed flowers to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II...

Before the visit she also chatted to Captain Nick Trevor from the Royal Mercian and Lancastrian Yeomanry about the regiment's big day....

And here's National Memoriam Chief Executive Charles Bagot Jewitt talking to Lindsey before the Queen's visit....
